FreshFolio is a pantry inventory app for iPhone and Android. Scan a product's barcode and FreshFolio fills in its name, brand, and category. It tracks where each item is stored and when it expires, and when you run low, the item shows up on your shopping list. Track as little or as much detail as you like.
How pantry inventory works in FreshFolio
- Scan a barcode. FreshFolio reads UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-13, and EAN-8 codes and looks up the product in OpenFoodFacts, UPCItemDB, and BarcodeSpider. If nothing matches, add it yourself with your own name, brand, category, and photo.
- Put it where it lives. Items go into storage locations: Fridge, Freezer, Pantry, or custom ones like "Garage Fridge." Skip the location and FreshFolio picks one for you.
- Add it once, restock forever. The first scan creates a reusable catalog item. Each time you buy it again, FreshFolio adds a new lot with its own quantity and expiration date, with no duplicate data entry.
- Restock automatically. Set a Safety Stock level ("alert me below 3 cans") and FreshFolio notifies you when you drop under it and suggests the item for your shopping list.
- Shop, then put away in one pass. Items you check off at the store move to the Purchased Queue, ready to put away together when you get home.
Keeps working without a signal
FreshFolio is offline-first. Add and update items in a basement or a store with no reception, and everything syncs once you're back online. The one exception is barcode product lookup, which needs a connection to fill in product details.
Keeps itself accurate
Inventories drift. FreshFolio's Verify Pantry check nudges you to confirm quantities, more often for the things you use most (as often as every 14 days) and about every 90 days for everything else. Record a price at Put Away and each item builds a price history showing the lowest price you've paid and where.

Frequently asked questions
What barcodes can FreshFolio scan?
UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-13, and EAN-8. If a product isn't in any database, add it manually. Custom products you create help fill the community catalog for the next person who scans that barcode.
Does FreshFolio work offline?
Yes. Adding and updating items works offline and syncs when you reconnect. Barcode lookup needs a connection: the camera reads the code, but product details fill in once you're online.
What is the difference between a catalog item and a lot?
A catalog item is the product template (name, brand, category, default shelf life). A lot is one purchase of it, with its own quantity and expiration date, so two cartons of the same milk bought a week apart are tracked separately.
Can FreshFolio tell me when I'm running low?
Yes. Set a Safety Stock quantity on an item. Below that level, FreshFolio notifies you and lists the item in the shopping list's Low-Stock Suggestions.
