Your Pantry and Your Recipes, Working as One

FreshFolio knows what you have, checks your recipes against it, and keeps your pantry up to date when you shop and when you cook.

FreshFolio is a pantry app and a recipe cookbook for iPhone and Android that work together. Most pantry apps tell you what you have, but not what you can cook. Most recipe apps tell you what you need, but not whether you have it. FreshFolio does both: it tracks every item in your fridge, freezer, and pantry, checks your saved recipes against that stock, amounts included, and takes out the ingredients you use when you cook.

How the loop works

  1. Plan. Items that drop below your Safety Stock level show up in the shopping list's Low-Stock Suggestions. Put saved recipes on the Meal Calendar, and on Pro open a recipe and tap Add to Shopping list to add what it's missing.
  2. Buy. Check items off at the store and they move to the Purchased Queue, ready to put away. On Pro, scan your grocery receipt instead: FreshFolio fills in the price, store, and date, and learns each store's items so the next receipt needs fewer barcode scans.
  3. Store. Each purchase becomes its own lot with a quantity and an expiration date, in the fridge, freezer, or pantry where you keep it. Mark something opened and its countdown gets shorter.
  4. Cook. Type in your own recipes or import them from websites into your cookbook. What Can I Cook? (Pro) shows which ones you can make now. When you cook, you confirm the ingredients and FreshFolio takes them out of your pantry, soonest-expiring first.
  5. Learn. Reports show what you used and what you wasted, in dollars. Price history shows the lowest price you've paid and where. Rate items to remember what's worth buying again, and ask the Pantry Assistant about any of it.

It checks amounts, not just names

Having milk isn't the same as having 2 cups of it. FreshFolio converts between units like cups, grams, and ounces, uses the package size for items you count (one 14 oz bottle of ketchup is 14 ounces), and adds up every line of a recipe that uses the same item, so two lines of ketchup are checked against one bottle.

When it can't be sure, for example cups to grams for an item with no known density, or because an ingredient isn't linked to a specific pantry item yet, it marks the ingredient Likely instead of In Stock, so you know it's a good guess, not a confirmed count. On Pro, Smart Ingredient Matching also recognizes that "Tyson Grilled Chicken Breast Strips" and "chicken" are the same ingredient.

Your cookbook, not someone else's

FreshFolio doesn't push a recipe catalog at you. Save the recipes you actually cook: type in your own, from Mom's lasagna to Grandma's handwritten cards, with a photo of the card, or share a recipe page from your phone's browser to FreshFolio. On Pro, Smart Ingredient Matching then checks them against your pantry. On Pro, the AI Recipe Engine can also build new recipes from what you have, including a switch that starts with what expires soonest.

Tell it exactly which item you mean

After Smart Ingredient Matching, FreshFolio links an ingredient to the item in your pantry when the names match, singular or plural. When it can't tell which item you mean, tap the ingredient and pick the right one. A small link icon shows it's linked, and from then on the stock check, your shopping list and Cooking Mode all use exactly that item.

Cooking keeps your pantry honest

Start cooking and FreshFolio lists the pantry items the recipe will use. Uncheck anything you're substituting or skipping, confirm, and they come out of your pantry. Every purchase keeps its own date, and FreshFolio takes from the one that expires soonest first, so the oldest food gets used before it goes to waste.

Frequently asked questions

Does FreshFolio show which recipes I can make with what I have?

Yes, on Pro and the free trial. What Can I Cook? checks your saved recipes against your pantry, amounts included. It lists the recipes you're ready to cook, and for the others shows how many ingredients you have and what's missing.

Does cooking a recipe update my pantry?

Yes. When you start cooking, FreshFolio lists the pantry items the recipe will use. Uncheck anything you're not using, confirm, and it takes them out of your pantry, using the stock that expires soonest first. This step needs a connection.

Do I have to use FreshFolio's recipes?

No. There's no recipe catalog to browse. You add the recipes you actually cook: type in your own, like the family recipes on Grandma's cards, or import them from websites. On Pro the AI Recipe Engine can also create new ones from what's in your pantry.

What if FreshFolio can't tell whether I have enough?

It tells you. When it can't confirm an ingredient, such as cups to grams for an item with no known density, or an ingredient that isn't linked to a specific pantry item yet, it's marked Likely instead of In Stock, so you know to check. Tap the ingredient and pick the exact pantry item to link it.

How do I tell FreshFolio which pantry item a recipe ingredient means?

Open the recipe, tap the ingredient, use Ingredient Name (Pantry Link) to search for the item, pick it, and tap Save Changes. A small link icon then shows the ingredient is linked, and FreshFolio uses exactly that item to check stock, to build your shopping list, and to deduct when you cook. This works once a recipe's ingredients have been through Smart Ingredient Matching (Pro and the free trial).
